What Is the My Benefits World Cycle to Work Scheme?

The My Benefits World Cycle to Work Scheme is a government-backed salary sacrifice programme that allows you to spread the cost of a new bicycle and cycling accessories through monthly payroll deductions—before tax and National Insurance. This means you can save up to 42% on the total value, making quality commuter bikes and electric bikes more affordable.

The scheme is integrated into the My Benefits World platform, which many employers use to manage a wide range of employee benefits in one place.

How the Scheme Works

Joining the scheme is a straightforward process:

1. Check if your employer is registered with My Benefits World.

2. Choose your desired commuter bike or any eligible electric bike and accessories from an approved retailer like Glide & Gear

3. Submit your quote or basket total through your My Benefits World portal. 4. Your employer reviews and approves the request.

5. Once approved, you’ll receive a voucher to redeem your chosen items. 6. Start riding while monthly salary deductions begin.

At the end of your agreement, you may have the option to extend the hire, return the bike, or purchase it for fair market value.

Why Choose the My Benefits World Cycle to Work Scheme?

Save Up to 42%

Cut the cost of a new bike by paying through gross salary, avoiding Income Tax and National Insurance.

Fully Integrated with Workplace Benefits

Access the scheme through your existing benefits platform, often alongside other HR perks.

Flexible Equipment Options

Choose from commuter bikes hybrid bikes, folding models, fat tyre bikes, cargo bikes, quality  e-bikes including gear like  helmets,  locks and other essential accessories

Ideal for Mid to Large Employers

Commonly used across organisations with multiple benefit offerings, making it easier to manage.

Quick and Paperless Application

Submit and track everything online via a streamlined digital portal.

Who Can Apply?

If your employer uses My Benefits World and you earn above the National Minimum Wage after deductions, you’re likely eligible. This scheme is designed to support both public and private sector employees through a centralised benefits system.

Are There Any Limits?

Spending limits depend on your employer’s internal policy. Many employers set a cap of £1,000, though higher budgets may be approved—especially for electric bikes or full accessory bundles. Always check your individual allowance within the portal or speak with your HR team.

Important Considerations Before Applying

● The bike is technically owned by your employer or scheme provider during the agreement period. Ownership may require a final payment at the end.

● Since salary is sacrificed, there may be small impacts on pension contributions or statutory pay entitlements.

● Internal approval processes vary, which may affect how quickly your application is processed.

● Not all bike brands or retailers may be available depending on your employer’s setup.

Why Many Customers Prefer Buying Directly from Glide & Gear

While the My Benefits World scheme is a convenient route to savings, many customers prefer to buy directly from Glide & Gear to enjoy faster access, more flexibility, and complete ownership. Here’s why:

1. Instant 5–7% Discount on the Non-Sale Price

At Glide & Gear, we offer a guaranteed 5–7% discount based on the original (non-sale) price of any commuter bike when you choose to buy directly, instead of using a Cycle to Work scheme. This gives you immediate savings without having to go through lengthy approval processes, employer sign-offs, or salary deductions. You get full control, faster checkout, and access to the exact model you want—without compromise or delay.

2. Immediate Ownership

No leasing, no ambiguity. You own the bike from the day of purchase.

3. Freedom to Choose Without Limitations

No internal caps or scheme limitations—just pick the model that’s right for you.

4. Faster Fulfilment and Hands-On Support

Skip the wait. We offer priority processing and expert support to match you with the ideal commuter setup.

Then buying directly from Glide & Gear—with a guaranteed 5–7% discount on the non-sale price—is often the quicker and more rewarding option.
