Vivup Cycle to Work Scheme UK: Save Up to 42% with Glide & Gear

Maximise Your Commute Savings with the Vivup Cycle to Work Scheme

Cycling to work is a practical and cost-effective choice for thousands of UK commuters looking to improve their health, save on travel costs, and reduce reliance on public transport or private vehicles. The Vivup Cycle to Work Scheme makes this shift easier by offering a salary sacrifice model that helps employees save money when buying a new bicycle (or electric bike) and cycling accessories.

At Glide & Gear, we’re proud to accept Vivup Cycle to Work Scheme vouchers and help you choose the right solution—whether that means using the scheme or buying directly with a personalised discount.

What is the Vivup Cycle to Work Scheme?

The Vivup Cycle to Work Scheme is a government-backed initiative that allows employees to lease a bicycle, and cycling equipment through their employer. Rather than paying the full cost upfront, the value is spread across a 12- to 18-month period through pre-tax salary deductions. This leads to significant savings—up to 42%—by reducing both Income Tax and National Insurance contributions.

Vivup works across a wide network of employers, particularly in the public sector and NHS, and gives employees access to a wide range of bikes, including hybrid models, commuter-friendly bikes, e-bikes, folding bikes, and essential accessories like helmets and locks

How the Scheme Works

The steps for joining the Vivup Cycle to Work Scheme are simple:

Step 1: Confirm that your employer is registered with Vivup.

Step 2: Choose your preferred electric bike and accessories from an approved retailer like Glide & Gear

Step 3: Request a quote from us to submit through your Vivup platform.

Step 4: Your employer reviews and approves the application.

Step 5: Once approved, a hire agreement is issued, and you collect your items. Step 6: Repay the cost via monthly payroll deductions while enjoying tax savings.

At the end of the agreement, you may be given the option to extend the hire, return the bike, or purchase it at fair market value.

Why Choose the Vivup Cycle to Work Scheme

Up to 42% Tax-Free Savings

Employees can significantly reduce the cost of their new bike and gear, making higher-spec or electric bike options more accessible.

No Upfront Cost

The entire value is split into manageable payments deducted directly from your gross salary.

Wide Product Availability

Vivup supports a broad range of bicycles, including electric bikes, and equipment, suitable for casual riders, daily commuters, and long-distance cyclists.

Health and Lifestyle Benefits

Cycling to work improves cardiovascular fitness, and mental well-being, and helps you stay active without extra gym costs. And with an electric bike, get to work without being drenched in sweat.

Ideal for NHS and Public Sector Staff

Many local authorities, trusts, and civil service departments already work with Vivup, making enrolment easy.

Who Can Apply?

Any UK employee whose employer is enrolled in the Vivup benefits platform can apply. However, eligibility is subject to your post-sacrifice earnings not falling below the National Minimum Wage. The scheme is open to part-time and full-time staff, especially within organisations using Vivup for wider employee benefits.

Are There Any Limits?

Vivup doesn’t impose fixed spending caps, but employers can set internal limits—commonly £1,000. However, higher allowances are becoming increasingly common, especially for electric bikes and complete commuting packages that include accessories

Always check with your employer about any limits that may apply to your scheme. Important Considerations Before Applying

● The bike is technically owned by the employer or scheme provider during the hire term. To gain full ownership, you may be required to pay a fair market value fee at the end of the agreement.

● Because it’s a salary sacrifice scheme, it may slightly impact other earnings-based benefits such as pensions, life insurance, or statutory maternity pay.

● Applications and approvals can take some time, depending on how quickly your HR department processes requests.

● Employers may restrict brands or set policy-specific rules regarding approved accessories or package value.

Why Many Customers Prefer Buying Direct from Glide & Gear

Although the Vivup scheme offers excellent tax savings, many riders prefer a simpler, more flexible alternative—buying directly from Glide & Gear. Here's why:

1. Instant 5–7% Discount on the Non-Sale Price

At Glide & Gear, we offer a guaranteed 5–7% discount based on the original (non-sale) price of any commuter bike when you choose to buy directly, instead of using a Cycle to Work scheme. This gives you immediate savings without having to go through lengthy approval processes, employer sign-offs, or salary deductions. You get full control, faster checkout, and access to the exact model you want—without compromise or delay.

2. Immediate Ownership

With a direct purchase, the bike is yours immediately. There are no end-of-lease conditions or ownership transfer fees.

3. Freedom of Choice

Select any model or accessory you want—without being limited by employer-approved suppliers or pricing caps.

4. Faster Delivery and Priority Support

Receive your bike quicker and get personalised support from our in-house team of cycling experts. We're here to recommend the perfect setup for your route, height, and riding style—without scheme-related delays.

Which Option Is Right for You?

The Vivup Cycle to Work Scheme is an excellent choice if you're eligible and willing to wait through your employer’s approval process. However, if you prefer:

● Immediate ownership

● Quicker delivery

● Broader selection

● Or you're not eligible for Cycle to Work

Then buying directly from Glide & Gear may be your best option—with a guaranteed 5–7% discount based on the original bike price.
