Halfords Cycle2Work Scheme UK: Save Up to 42% on Bikes with Glide & Gear

Maximise Your Commute Savings with the Halfords Cycle2Work Scheme

For UK commuters searching for a flexible and accessible way to reduce travel costs and improve health, the Halfords Cycle2Work Scheme offers a practical route to owning a commuter bike without upfront expense. Backed by the government’s Cycle to Work initiative, this scheme allows you to spread the cost of your new electric bike and accessories through a salary sacrifice agreement while enjoying tax savings.

At Glide & Gear, we proudly accept Halfords Cycle2Work vouchers and help you navigate your options—whether you choose to use the scheme or prefer to buy directly with an exclusive discount.

What is the Halfords Cycle2Work Scheme?

The Halfords Cycle2Work Scheme allows employees to save up to 42% on the total cost of a bicycle and related commuting accessories by paying monthly deductions from their gross salary. Because these payments are taken before tax and National Insurance, it results in substantial savings and makes higher-end commuter and electric bikes more affordable.

The scheme is run by Halfords but supports redemption at partner retailers as well—including independent bike shops and online specialists.

How the Scheme Works

Joining the Halfords Cycle2Work Scheme involves a few simple steps:

Step 1: Ensure your employer is registered with Halfords Cycle2Work

Step 2: Choose your ideal electric bicycle and any accessories from an approved retailer like Glide & Gear

Step 3: Apply for your Cycle2Work Letter of Collection (voucher) through the online portal.

Step 4: Your employer reviews and approves the application.

Step 5: Once approved, you receive your voucher and can redeem it in-store or online.

Step 6: Monthly repayments are taken from your salary, offering immediate tax benefits.

At the end of the term, you’ll be given the option to extend the hire or purchase the bike for a fair market value.

Why Choose the Halfords Cycle2Work Scheme?

Save Up to 42%

Tax savings make quality electric bikes and accessories more accessible—perfect for both new and experienced cyclists.

Flexible Redeeming Options

Use your voucher at Halfords, Tredz, and participating partner stores—including independent retailers and online shops like Glide & Gear

Broad Range of Bikes

Access hybrid bikes, folding models, fat tyre bikes, cargo bikes, quality e-bikes, and essential commuter gear including helmets and locks

Backed by a Nationwide Retailer

Halfords has a wide presence across the UK and provides added value through servicing packages and extended support.

Fully Digital Application Process

Quick and easy to apply with approval often issued within days, depending on your employer.

Who Can Apply?

Any UK employee can apply for the Halfords Cycle2Work Scheme, provided their employer is registered and they meet the National Minimum Wage requirements after the salary sacrifice is applied. It’s available to both public and private sector workers and is especially popular among large organisations.

Are There Any Limits?

The standard scheme offers up to £1,000 worth of bikes and accessories, but Halfords also provides a High-Value Scheme for employers who opt in—allowing higher limits for electric bike and full commuting bundles. You should confirm with your HR department to check the applicable limit set by your organisation.

Important Considerations Before Applying

● You won’t officially own the bike during the hire period; ownership is offered after the agreement ends and may require a market-value payment.

● As a salary sacrifice scheme, it could affect salary-based benefits such as pension contributions or statutory pay entitlements.

● Some employers have internal restrictions on which bikes or brands can be chosen.

● There may be delays between approval and voucher redemption depending on internal approval timelines.

Why Many Customers Prefer Buying Direct from Glide & Gear

The Halfords Cycle2Work Scheme is a strong option—but some customers prefer the ease and speed of buying directly from Glide & Gear. Here’s why it might be the better choice for you:

1. Instant 5–7% Discount on the Non-Sale Price

At Glide & Gear, we offer a guaranteed 5–7% discount based on the original (non-sale) price of any commuter bike when you choose to buy directly, instead of using a Cycle to Work Scheme. This gives you immediate savings without having to go through lengthy approval processes, employer sign-offs, or salary deductions. You get full control, faster checkout, and access to the exact model you want—without compromise or delay.

2. You Own the Bike Immediately

Avoid the ambiguity around ownership, lease extensions, or end-of-agreement payments.

3. No Restrictions on Choice

Choose any model or accessory without being limited by employer caps or approved product lists.

4. Priority Delivery and Dedicated Support

By shopping directly, you benefit from priority processing, quick dispatch, and personalised assistance from our cycling experts. We're here to recommend the perfect setup for your route, height, and riding style—without scheme-related delays.

Which Option Is Right for You?

Halfords Cycle2Work is a convenient and popular scheme, especially if your employer is already registered and you’re happy with the process. But if you’d rather:

● Skip the paperwork

● Own your bike from day one.

● Choose without limits

● Or aren’t eligible for Cycle to Work

Then buying directly from Glide & Gear may be your best option—with a guaranteed 5–7% discount based on the original bike price.

If you're still exploring whether to use the scheme, you can find full details or check eligibility at www.cycle2work.info.
