How It Works

When you order a Wisper full-throttle bike through Glide & Gear, we arrange for the bike to undergo testing by the DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) to obtain Single Vehicle Approval (SVA). This process ensures compliance with EAPC (Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycle) regulations and typically takes 2–8 weeks.

The bike is tested at an MVSA-approved centre, and upon successful approval, it receives a British National Type Approval Certificate, unique to your bike’s frame number. This certificate, valid for the bike’s lifetime, must be kept safe as proof of compliance.

When the throttle is not in use, full-throttle eBikes function like standard eBikes, with no impact on regular EAPC features. The throttle can be used as needed, providing additional flexibility.

Wisper Full-Throttle Bikes Approved by the DVSA

To meet type approval requirements, eBikes must include front and rear lights operated together on one switch. Please note that certain models, such as the Tailwind Trail, Tailwind City, and Wayfarer Mountain, currently do not meet these criteria but are expected to be compatible by mid-2023.

The Regulations

L1e electric bikes are classified as Low Powered Mopeds under the Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycle Regulations 1983 and amendments in 2015. These regulations stipulate that bikes must:

• Be equipped with pedals capable of propelling the bike.
• Use an electric motor with a maximum continuous rated power of 250 watts, limited to speeds of 15.5 mph.

When type approved, Wisper full-throttle bikes can legally operate on UK roads and private land within these parameters.

Costs and Warranty

Glide & Gear offers a comprehensive SVA certification service for £300 on new Wisper bikes. This fee includes:

• Test fees and bike software upgrades.
• Transportation to and from the test centre.
• Warranty extension to cover full-throttle usage (valid for the original 24-month period from the bike’s purchase date).
• Pre-test servicing for used bikes.

There is no option to manage the SVA process yourself.
